Papers concerning Mount Vernon [manuscript], 1855-1899.

The collection contains two letters from S. Adams Lee, 1855 April 18 and May 11, offering Lossing a copy of an Indian treaty made by his great uncle Arthur Lee and asks Lossing to autograph a copy of his history for him; a letter from Mrs. N. W. Halsted, 1874 June 4 sending an account of the transactions of the Council of the Mt. Vernon Ladies Association; a letter from Fred W. Davis, 1887 June 23, concerning the articles of secession given to Lossing in April 1865; and a letter from Kate Mason Rowland, 1889, on the ownership of a letter from George Mason to George Washington. The collection also contains a 1 page account, 1859, of the Mount Vernon Fund to purchase George Washington's home, listing contributions from various New York counties and the names of the collectors; a clipping about the fund and the nomination of mary Morris Hamilton as New York regent for the Mount Vernon Fund; and a receipt to Lossing from the Spotswood Hotel, Richmond, Va.; and a clipping.
